Getting off the ferry

When you board "Ferry Sunflower" in Osaka and arrive at Beppu International Tourist Port, you will be greeted by "Welcome to Beppu" in the image above. The ramp is connected to the 2nd floor of the building, so take the escalator down to the 1st floor.

There is a ferry reception, souvenir shop and restaurant on the 1st floor, but the souvenir shop and restaurant are closed in the morning. There is also a corner near the reception that collects tourist information on Oita and Kyushu, so you can also collect information. However, buses do not come frequently, so it is recommended to check the bus time first.

Finding a bus stop

Kamenoi buses, the left one, come more frequently than the other one. The timetable is from March 2020, so it may be different from the current situation.

Be careful when you arrive on Fridays and Saturdays. The ferry is scheduled to arrive at Beppu International Tourism Port at 7:45, so if you miss the bus at 7:49, you will have to wait for nearly 30 minutes. By the way, if you take a taxi, it costs about 1050 yen to get to Beppu Station.

If you have only a small luggage and the weather is fine, it would be nice to rent a bicycle. If you use Oita Cycle Share , you can use a bicycle for 165 yen for 30 minutes.

From bus stop to Beppu station

For both Kamenoi Bus (picture above) and Oita Kotsu, you can pay the bus fare with a transportation IC card. Don't forget to touch when riding. It costs 170 yen to get to Beppu station, and it takes about 12 minutes.

In fact, the nearest bus stop to J-Hoppers Beppu Guest House is "Beppu Tower Mae" which is a few stops earlier than Beppu Station. The fare is also 170 yen, but the time required is as short as 7 minutes.

From Beppu Tower to hostel

After getting off the bus, cross the intersection nearby. If you go back a little to the direction bus came, you will find the family restaurant "Gusto", and turn left on that corner. If you walk straight for about 200m (about 3 minutes), you will see J-Hoppers Beppu Guesthouse on your right hand side.
