Getting off the ferry
Until 2023, when you board the "Ferry Sunflower" in Osaka and arrive at Beppu International Tourist Port, you are greeted by the "Welcome to Beppu" sign shown in the image above.
However, a new ferry terminal, the "Sunflower Terminal (Beppu)", was built in 2023 when the "Sunflower Kurenai" began service. The old terminal had a souvenir shop and restaurants, but the new terminal only has the bare minimum of facilities such as a reception, waiting room, and toilets.
The bus stop for Beppu Station is in front of the terminal. Kamenoi Bus and Oita Kotsu operate buses to Beppu Station. Kamenoi Bus is more convenient as it runs more frequently. The timetable for Kamenoi Bus is below.

Both are timetables for October 2024. Please check the latest timetables on the official Kamenoi Bus and Kamenoi Bus websites. By the way, if you take a taxi, it will cost about 1,250 yen to Beppu Station.
If you have only a small luggage and the weather is fine, it would be nice to rent a bicycle. If you use Oita Cycle Share , you can use a bicycle for 165 yen for 30 minutes.
From bus stop to Beppu station
For both Kamenoi Bus (picture above) and Oita Kotsu, you can pay the bus fare with a transportation IC card. Don't forget to touch when riding. It costs 210 yen to get to Beppu station, and it takes about 12 minutes.
In fact, the nearest bus stop to J-Hoppers Beppu Guest House is "Beppu Tower Mae" which is a few stops earlier than Beppu Station. The fare is also 210 yen, but the time required is as short as 7 minutes.
From bus stop to J-Hoppers
Here is Beppu Tower Mae bus stop.
After getting off the bus, cross the intersection nearby. If you go back a little to the direction bus came, you will find the family restaurant "Gusto", and turn left on that corner. If you walk straight for about 200m (about 3 minutes), you will see J-Hoppers Beppu Guesthouse on your right hand side.
